Heavenly Armies

2 Kings 6 tells one of the most vivid stories that can spark the imagination of any child or adult. It’s the story of the prophet Elijah surrounded by the Syrian army. In that moment, Elisha stared at a terrifying foe, no doubt eliciting heavy anxiety. That is until he asked God to open his eyes…it’s then he saw a larger, stronger heavenly army surrounding his enemy.

A fun story to picture, and even more than that, an essential story to hold onto heading into suffering.

On Friday, June 12, Nicole will head into the hospital to start her first 5 day chemo regimen. Then she’ll return for another 5 days after 2 weeks at home. This schedule will continue through September.

There are numerous potential stressors—the severity of the diagnoses, the pain of the prognosis, side effects of strong chemo, job security questions, hair loss. In many ways it can feel as though a foe stands at the gate.

Yet at the same time, the invisible heavenly realm has roared, reminding that the current stressors are mere earthly. The battle has been won. The valley has been filled with the hope of the cross. God’s people stand next to us pouring out support.

Thank you for being part of reminding us of the above. The prayers you’ve prayed, the encouraging comments on this website, the thoughtful gifts to distract our kids and bless Nicole, the meals—we’re sincerely humbled to be your friends.
